In Vitro determination of platelet aggregation inhibition activity of Dapdap Erythrina indica (LAM., 1754) leaf extracts.

                This study dealt with the determination of platelet aggregation inhibition activity of dapdap Erythrina indica (LAM., 1754) leaf extracts with the use of Giemsa Microplate Assay and Spectrophotometric Analysis. The method of extraction involved maceration using 95% ethanol and solvent partitioning using hexane. In Giemsa Microplate Assay, all test solutions with varying concentrations of 50 mg/mL, 75mg/mL and 100mg/mL each in three trials with triplicates showed the presence of gel formation, indicating platelet aggregation. Absence of gels signifies inhibition of platelet aggregation. In Spectrophotometric Analysis, only TS-A (hexane-free extract) at a concentration of 75mg/mL exhibited platelet aggregation inhibition activity among other test solutions with an average percent antiplatelet activity of 10.12 ± 11.98. One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was performed to all data obtained from Spectrophotometric Analysis and a post hoc analysis was further conducted using Tukey (HSD) Test Difference between Means. All test solutions had a significant difference with the positive control indicating that all concentrations did not have the same antiplatelet aggregation activity with the positive control. The constituents present in Erythrina indica (Dapdap) hexane-free leaf extracts such as flavonoids could have contributed to its antiplatelet aggregation activity.
