Antiplatelet aggregation activity of Curcuma zedoaria ROSC. (1867) Rhizome tea using Giemsa microplate assay and spectrophotometric analysis.

The study was done to determine the possible antiplatelet aggregation activity of Curcuma zedoaria Rosc. (1867) rhizome tea using the Giemsa Microplate Assay and Spectrophotometric Analysis.The ability to inhibit CaCl2 was determined by the presence and absence of gel in each well of the microplate in the Giemsa Microplate Assay and the antiplatelet activity of the Curcuma zedoaria rhizome tea was measured using the Spectrophotometer read at 330nm. Among the different test solutions tested--0.25g, 0.5g, 1g, 1.5g and 2g, test solution 2g and 1.5g showed the least amount of gel in each well with the Giemsa Microplate Assay. Subsequently, only these two solutions have showed the highest absorbance reading with 0.473 ± 0.073 in 1.5g  and 0.627 ± 0.101 for 2g test solutions and highest antiplatelet activity of  117.10% ± 14.17 for 1.5g test solution and 175.19% ± 8.10 for 2g test solution. The computed EC50 is 1.049g of the Curcuma zedoria rhizome tea that can produce 50% effectivity. The results of Giemsa Microplate Assay and Spectrophotometric Analysis serving as the two parameters in this study, showed the antiplatelet activity of Curcuma zedoaria rhizome tea. A diarylheptanoid metabolite, curcumin, is responsible for the indication of the antiplatelet activity of the plant sample
