The study aimed to assess the perceived effectiveness of the Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) as an assessment tool by the BSN students of St. Paul University Philippines.
The study utilized the descriptive research design. A total of 80 respondents identified through random sampling participated in the study. Data were gathered through a questionnaire originally developed by Pierre et al. (2004). The researchers modified the tool to fit the current study by using the 26 items of the tool. Analysis and interpretation of data collected was done through frequency counts, percentage, means and paired T-test. The study revealed that OSCE was seen as very effective in terms of their clinical skills assessment. The study further noted a significant difference between perceived effectiveness of OSCE when evaluated before and after OSCE performance with a p value of 0.001. The year level of the respondents has not affected their perception of OSCE since it had a p value of 0.004. The regular implementation of the OSCE in the nursing department provided the faculty an area to improve the capabilities of the students before the actual clinical exposure thus the perceived improved skills performance of the students.
