Infection is a major factor that postpones wound healing. Many reports indicate important role of washing solutions on preventing wound infections and cleansing is a vital component of wound management. The role of local application of betadine, nornmal saline solution and 70% alcohol was evaluated in preventing post-operative wound infection.
This is randomized controlled trial consisting of women who underwent abdominal surgery . Three would cleaning solutions were used post operatively for wound care using Betadine. 70% Alcohol and Nornal Saline. One week after discharge, the surgical site was followed up, then correlated result with the three solutions.
There is no significant effect of the three solutions according to age variation, civil status, gravidity and socio-economic status on would healing process which indicates that it is not a factor for high infection rate. There is no significant effect of Betadine and 70% Alcohol but NSS have a highly significant result. This means that Betadine and 70% Alcohol are safe in any type of operation but NSS may cause infection in any type of operation.
There is no significant effect of Betadine and 70% Alcohol which denotes that Betadine and 70% Alcohol are safe would cleansers in any type of operation done but NSS is not highly recommended as wound cleanser.
It is the purpose of this study to compare the efficacy, acceptability, and safety of Povidone-Iodine, 70% Isoprophyl Alcohol and Normal Saline solution as a post-operative wound cleanser
